Cladding completed on Ebbw Vale college
The construction of a sixth form super college in Ebbw Vale has reached a “milestone,” reports the South Wales Argus. Known as The Learning Zone, the centre will provide all post-16 education in the Blaenau Gwent area.
Contractor, Leadbitter said the building work had reached a construction milestone as the main brickwork and external cladding had been completed. The next stage is to construct an innovative sky garden.
Constructed the site of a former steel works
Costing £32 million, the college is being constructed on The Works, the site of a former steel works, which will be shared with other educational establishments, including a ‘merged’ primary school. All of the centres are due to open in September 2012.
Progress of the new school build
Children from Pontygof Primary, Waunlwyd Primary and Pen-y-Cwm Special Needs schools – those that will be merging – all visited their new centre yesterday, the roof of which has just been finished.
Commenting on the milestones thus far, Ed Rees, Leadbitter’s area director for Wales, told Wales Online:
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate the progress on the school with those who will benefit from its new facilities.
“As part of our work constructing this first class learning environment, we have organised an ongoing programme of visits for the pupils, enabling them to see their new school.”
