Legacy plans for Olympic Park announced
Plans for an ecological ‘community hub’ the north corner of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park have been approved, bdonline.co.uk reports.
Due to open in 2013, the hub comprises ‘wild’ parkland in which a playground, café and community centre will sit. Designed by Erect Architecture, the application was submitted by the new London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC).
Ecological ‘community hub’
The community centre – which is to feature exterior cladding and solar panels – will house the café, a reception area, offices, public conveniences and a large ‘flexible space’ which can be used for events; opening out onto 2,500 square metres of lawns.
Some £1 million of funding is to be contributed by the London Marathon Charitable Trust.
To become one of the most beautiful green spaces in London
Commenting on the hub, Andrew Altman (LLDC chief executive), said:
“This hub will be at the heart of community life. We have designed an area that not only serves visitors, but encourages them to learn about the natural environment around them.”
“It will be one of the most beautiful green spaces in London, with wetlands, clean waterways and beautiful parklands for everyone to enjoy.”
The North and South Park developments
The North Park is the first section that will be open to the public, next July. The South Park will follow in spring 2014, eventmagazine.co.uk confirmed. Plans for the South Park have also been submitted and include a promenade that opens out on to several outdoor rooms – including a music room, performance space and labyrinth.
