Lincoln building awarded green construction award
British building firm, Bowmer and Kirkland Ltd has won a prestigious sustainable construction award in recognition of its work on a Siemens site in Lincoln, insidermedia.com reports.
Over 400 industry professionals attended Insider Media’s 2013 East Midlands Property Awards ceremony, which celebrated property and construction successes in the region over a challenging year.
Thoughtful design and construction lead to a BREEAM Outstanding rating
Bowmer and Kirkland was presented with Sustainable Development of the Year for its Siemen’s workshop facility in Teal Park. The judges were especially impressed that the thoughtful construction and design had lead to a BREEAM Outstanding rating – the building is one of only a few in the country to achieve this ‘world-leading benchmark’ standard, according to thelincolnite.co.uk.
The building incorporates energy efficient controlled lighting and photovoltaic panels on the roof. Siemens is continuing the eco-theme by promoting car-sharing and providing electric car charging points in the car park.
Councillor Colin Davie, executive member for economic development at Lincolnshire County Council, was full of praise for the winner:
“Congratulations to Bowmer and Kirkland, which has designed and built a building that is sympathetic to our community.”
“Bowmer and Kirkland’s sustainable design and construction for the new Siemens building has truly reflected our overarching goal – to boost Lincolnshire’s economy without impacting its beautiful environment.”
