New E. Midlands Custody Centre utilises flooring and roofing solutions from Tata Steel
The 44,000 square feet building at Pavilion Drive, Northampton Business Park is a new custodial centre, providing 40 state-of-the-art short term cells and 2000m2 of purpose-built office space. It is one of the largest temporary custodial centres in the UK.
Having replaced outdated premises at Wellingborough, Campbell Square and Weston Favell police stations, Northamptonshire Police Authority and Northamptonshire Police are now providing upgraded facilities for the Northampton, Daventry and South Northamptonshire areas.
Departments that have also relocated to the new centre include the Criminal Investigation Department, Protecting Vulnerable Persons and the Force Intelligence Bureau. Staff from the Drug Intervention Programme and the Probation Service also work within the CJC.
The building has been designed to allow the layout to be modified in the future as the need in the county changes.
Over 2,500m2 of ComFlor® 51 composite floor decking was selected for three of the building’s floors. It is a traditional dovetail re-entrant deck that provides an excellent mechanical key into the concrete slab, offering strong shear bond performance, augmented by cross stiffeners located in the deep profile trough. ComFlor® 51 presents a virtually flat soffit. A relatively thin slab is required to meet fire design requirements.
Over 850m2 of the efficient yet strong RoofDek D35 shallow deck profile was utilised on the main roof above the building’s administration area. The fan-shaped custody area is located over the main roof and features over 1,300m2 of the RoofDek D159 deep deck profile, providing a rugged structural platform.
