Nottingham residents to benefit from free cladding
A number of Nottingham City Homes tenants may well be rejoicing following news their homes will be made more efficient free of charge. The council-affiliated organisation is to install external cladding onto council homes in Stonebridge Park as part of a £1.75 million sustainability drive, reports thisisnottingham.co.uk.
Making homes more energy efficient
Other residents in St Ann’s, who have bought houses under the local authority’s right-to-buy scheme, are also entitled to the cladding – but for a price. These homeowners will have to pay reduced costs of £6,550 for the work, which hasn’t gone down well with all residents.
Catherine Blore, 60, of Flewitt Gardens said:
“I love St Ann’s and I like living where I do. I just think the council should make all the properties look the same, otherwise when people don’t pay for the cladding, the estate will look like a hotchpotch.”
Local housing regeneration scheme
However, councillor Dave Liversidge – who is the city council’s portfolio holder for housing, regeneration and community sector – said that without the discounts applied, the work would cost around £12,000.
Cited by nottinghamshire-news.co.uk, he added:
“Efforts are being made to reduce this cost even further in order to allow as many owner-occupiers as possible to take advantage of this opportunity.”
Improving the appearance of homes
The offer is being made as 94 new homes are due to be built; each of which will already be constructed using the the cladding. This not only provides a decent amount of insulation but also improves the appearance of the new and existing properties.
