Tata Steel ensures every little helps for Tesco’s new superstore

Is this the future of supermarket shopping in our High Streets? This futuristic, metal-fronted monolith is the new £27m Tesco Extra superstore in the heart of Bedworth and is well worth a check-out.

Tesco-extra-bedworth-1 Built on the site of a previous Tesco, this impressive 65,000 square foot store was designed to attract shoppers back into the town centre with its mix of food and non-food items, selling everything from fruit and flowers to fashion, phones and frying pans in its dedicated home, cook, electrical and clothing departments . And so a typical supermarket façade just wouldn’t cut the mustard for this Tesco store.

Not only did it have to be contemporary, it had to be up and running for business as soon as possible. And so Eurobond Rockspan panels, with a facing using Colorcoat Prisma®, were specified for the exterior combined with timber/terracotta rainscreens, backed up by Eurobond’s Rainspan structural support panel to create a fire-resistant, weatherproof envelope.

The result is a modern mix of architectural materials and steel panels which not only give a stunning effect, they truly ensured that every little helps for this redevelopment by enabling the build process to head into the express lane.

The simple installation of the panels, and the long fire rated spans of up to 7.5m, meant that the superstore could be covered quickly with minimal secondary steelwork needed, helping to save time and money through the build schedule, ensuring the new Tesco Extra superstore was able to welcome shoppers through its doors in just 12 months.

With its modern clean design, it’s a one-stop-shop that’s certain to have a very long shelf-life with Bedworth shoppers.
