1 February 2013 No Comment

Welcome to a sports centre where everyone can be a winner. The Ronald McDonald Centre in Amsterdam is the first sports and play centre in the world designed specifically to give physically and mentally-disabled children and young people the chance to enjoy sports and games activities to the best of their abilities.

By using state-of-the-art equipment and facilities such as swimming pools with movable floors, the impossible is made possible here for young visitors. At the centre the belief is that anyone can be an athlete and it’s thanks to the building’s unique design, by Fact Architects, that guests feel such a sense of freedom.

Kids’ sports centre is a winner thanks to Colorcoat®

The centre of the building is enveloped by two spectacular curved arenas surrounded by grandstands. The sweeping walls of the building’s interior create a sense of security and safety for visitors whilst the first floor not only gives a great view of friends playing sports both below and outside, but is also the location of the centre’s Clubhouse, where youngsters can meet, eat, play computer games and watch TV.

Designed to inspire and motivate, nothing is off limits to guests, who enjoy unrestricted access throughout the building and its outdoor facilities including a climbing wall, sports fields, athletics course and playgrounds.

Its sports hall was the first in the world to feature LED lighting which alters the lines on the floor dependent on the sport being played, whilst special equipment for those with physical disabilities is as invisible as possible to avoid any distinction between abilities.

Tata Steel helps give kids a sporting chance

The creation of the Ronald McDonald Centre was made possible through the donation of materials from suppliers including Tata Steel, which provided more than 1200m² of its Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® pre-finished steel in black which features within the roof of the swimming pool and gym areas.
